About me
Hi, I am so glad you have decided to visit.
I would like to tell you a bit about myself before we get started with our tour. As I have stated, I am, Miss Becky, "Miss Ducky" or "Gecky" for those that can't say "Becky." I have been a licensed child care provider since May, 1992. I am a single mom of a wonderful son, Brock. It was when I became a mother that I decided to leave my job as a Youth in Conflict Social Worker and opened my child care home. It was my goal to provide the type of environment I would want for my own son and I have done that. I offer a safe, clean, smoke free and loving home where my kids are family. I have an open door policy so parents just walk in when they arrive just as they would in their own homes with the difference being I have a buzzer on both doors. I keep a private Facebook page dedicated to my children's parents and grandparents so they can see the kids in action while in my care. I am current with CPR, first aid, Universal Precautions, medications administration and safe sleep training in addition to the 16 hours of continuing education we are required to take annually.
I hold an Experienced License which means I have taken the required courses to have a more advanced child care license. I am very competitively priced for my area, being lower than most. I am a member of the South West food program so I provide all meals and snacks that are well balanced and meet or exceed the USDA food program guidelines.
I have been working with children in various settings since 1975. I attended Iowa Wesley College for a year and a half majoring in Special Education and then transferred to and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in 1982. I have a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and my title is "Counselor of Abused Children." I wrote my own degree as I found I was not suited to just one program. I majored in Psychology and Sociology with minors in Child Development and Minority Studies. I took several Criminology classes at a graduate level as well. I was a Youth in Conflict Social Worker both in Greeley and Colorado Springs for over seven years prior to opening my child care home. I also did after hours child abuse investigations and license inspections for foster and receiving homes. I have worked with special needs children and adults in camp, rehabilitative and school settings. I was also a Counselor for abused, neglected, runaway and delinquent adolescents and children in a Shelter home. While in College I did my internships at Child Abuse Intervention and A Woman's Place, a shelter for battered women and their children as the Children's Program Coordinator. I have also been a volunteer coach for the Colorado Parks and Recreation as a soccer and t-ball coach for four and two years respectively. Talk about a learn as you go experience! But I had a blast!
Now for a bit about my child care facility. I operate as a family home. The safety and well being of your children is of utmost importance to me. We read stories, work on puzzles, color, count, and learn our numbers and letters. This is done in an informal manner due to the various ages and abilities of the children. When I have older children we do work on age appropriate workbooks and preschool activities. We also talk a great deal about what it is to be a good friend and not a bully. We even made t-shirts and a YOUTUBE video called, "Love being different, love being you" where the kids came up with things you should and should not do to others. "Don't be a bully, be a friend" is a lesson we live by at Becky's World of Wonder Daycare. Here is the link to that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0nspqiOdRg. (You will need to copy the link into your browser, it wouldn't let me link to it for some reason).
I love working with the children and look forward to their arrival daily. I have a very large backyard, play area and deck. We play outside as often as weather permits. We love to BBQ, sing and dance in the sunshine and play in the water and just have fun! I am very proud of my program and I know the kids love it too. I have several children who literally push their parents out the door so they can start their day here. It is very cute, you know your child is safe and having fun when they tell you to go to work so they can start their day!
Having fun with the kids is one of my favorite things about having a child care home. I pride myself on my home being a place where kids can be a kid!
I don't have a separate level for the children. We have a playroom filled with toys and toy sets that we either play with upstairs or we take what we want to play with for the day to the family room or the deck, providing the weather is nice. At the end of the day toys are put away just like a child would do at their own homes. This is a nice feature for me as it offers me the freedom of enjoying my home away from the business aspect of my home. It is important to feel like I can "leave work" in the evening and weekends when I am closed.
I have posted photos of the children in various activities for you to view.
We do have a dog, her name is Arrow and she loves being around the children. They are even helping in training Arrow to be a great listener too! Arrow will be formally trained through the advanced dog training classes at PetSmart, she is currently in the intermediate training class. Next is the advanced class. She was born on 12/23/2014. She is a great member of our family.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the tour.
